Math: We are having a Math Test tomorrow. It is over subtraction with regrouping. Your student should have brought home their practice math test that we did in class today. I noticed a few of them were left. Gatorade: Students are allowed to bring a water bottle, but not Gatorade. If it spills is all sticky. Please NO Gatorade. Behavior: I am going to start cracking down on behavior tomorrow. We had a class discussion today. We are having problems that we should not be having at the end of January. They know better and I think I have just been giving too many warnings. I will try to include a reason for why your child received the negative. I do not like giving negatives, but when we are having such rough behavior I will have to be giving them out more constantly. Book Order: I will be sending home the book order tomorrow. (Whoops! I had these prepared a couple weeks ago and forgot to hand them out. ) These are for January so they are due on Tuesday, January 31st by 8pm. Our class code is P6PHM. What we have been learning this week: Math: Subtraction with Regrouping Topic 6 Writing: Opinion Writing Reading: Strategies Science: Sound Spelling: List 14 https://www.spellingcity.com/view-spelling-list.html?listId=38514883

Wow! We have had lots of unexpected short weeks! Haha! I hope that it has helped you and your kids ease back into school after break.
Spelling: We are doing last week’s list List 13 this week. 100th Day: Next Friday is the the 100th Day of school. We are going to be doing some fun activities. Each child is going to create a tshirt to wear with 100 objects on it. A unique award will be given to each student for their creativity. Some ideas can be found by Google searching “100 days of school tshirts”. We will also be creating a 100th Day snack mix. Each student is asked to bring a snack that has at least 100 items to contribute. (cereal, pretzels, candy, marshmallows, etc.) *Please nothing with Dairy or no nuts since we have students with an allergy.* We will count and assemble the snack mix on the 100th day of school. Please have your student bring them in on the 100th day and not before. BFG: I also wanted to give you a head’s up that I have heard that the BFG has some content that could be a scary for young readers, such as monster eating children at night. I had not personally read the book before, but just trusted that it would be okay for us since it was given to us by the school. All that to say. If you decide that this is not a book that you want do not want to read that is okay with me. Just wanted to give you all a head’s up. Math: Subtraction with Regrouping Writing: Opinion Writing Reading: reading strategies Science: Sound Wow! I can’t believe we are in the 2nd half of the year already! I hope you all had a great break and enjoyed some extra time with your sweet kiddos.
Musical Instruments: Your kids did a great job on their instruments! Thanks for your help in this project. We will be using them throughout this week and they will come home when we are finished with them. BFG: Your family received a copy of the BFG the day before Christmas break. This is our school wide book for the year. The book club is designed so that each family reads the book together and then comes to Family Literacy Night to enjoy a night of activities based off of the the book. Family Literacy Night will be on Thursday, March 2nd. This book is above a 2nd grade reading level and is very difficult for a 2nd grader to read independently which is why it is essential for you to read it together. Along with the book came home an information sheet and on the back was a glossary of some of the many made-up words found in the book. I hope this is a great memory that you can share reading with your child. Report Cards: Report cards will be sent digitally on Friday. I have created a packet of supporting documents (like I had at conferences) that will help to clarify their scores. These packets will come home at the end of the week. Let me know if you have any questions about this.
